Loft Insulation
Recommended Levels of Insulation
You could save up to £100 per year if you insulate your loft.
Did you know that the second place where you loss heat the most is your roof, in fact this can amount to 25%, therefore having loft insulation is a very effective way in reducing your heating bills.
We recommend that you install at least a minimum of 10 inches or 270mm of insulation in your loft. You bay have some loft insulation present, but if you installed loft insulation over ten or fifteen years ago, it may be you have lost less then 2 inches.
Safety Precuations are needed to be followed and make sure you have adequate ventilation, make sure the job is done properly otherwise you could still lose a lot of heat.
Where possible lay the insulation between the joists, and then right angles to the first layer where it reaches the top ogf the joist, usually most joists will be less than 4 inches high. Make sure not to block the eaves, as ventilation is required in order to avoid condensation problems later. The loft hatch has to be insulated and draughtproofed, and make sure to lay the insulation under power cables to they remain visible. Tanks or pipes need to be properly lagged to prevent freezing.
